Sick Pay Guarantee

The Victorian Sick Pay Guarantee pilot program gives Victorian casual and contract workers in certain jobs up to 38 hours a year of sick and carer’s pay.

The program provides eligible workers with a financial safety net to take time off when they are sick or need to care for loved ones.

In 2021, the Victorian Government consulted with workers, employers and their representatives on the design of a Secure Work Pilot Scheme to improve the economic security of Victorian workers. The feedback helped shape what has now become the Victorian Sick Pay Guarantee.

For more information on this process, see the Public Consultation Summary Report.

The pilot program is fully funded by the Victorian Government. It will end on 30 June 2024.

An evaluation of the Sick Pay Guarantee pilot is underway, with outcomes expected to be available in early 2025.

The Victorian Government will share findings from the Sick Pay Guarantee pilot evaluation with the Commonwealth Government.
