Licence officials application

General information

If you intend to participate as a promoter, match-maker, referee, judge, timekeeper or trainer in Victoria you are required to be at least 18 years of age and hold a current licence.

Licence applications may take up to 6 weeks to be considered.

The Board is required to give a copy of your application to Victoria Police, who is required to provide the Board with an assessment of your suitability to hold a licence.

If approved, a licence is valid for 3 years and is subject to a range of conditions and requirements.

Applications

To apply for a licence in Victoria, you must complete an online application form, view a concussion education video as part of that application process, provide supporting documentation and pay the application fee.

The supporting documentation required to complete your application depends on the category of licence that you are seeking to apply for.

Promoter licence

In addition to completing the online application form, you must provide the following supporting documentation:

  • A National Police Record Check. Can be obtained from Victoria Police as well as a number of other providers. If using Victoria Police when completing Section E, Option 1 of the application form, your response should be ‘General employment’ and specify ‘Boxing and Combat Sports Licence’ under ‘Role or position. The National Police Record Check should be no older than 3 months prior to the date of your application.
  • One headshot style photograph.
  • A certified copy of government issued photo identification. Includes passport, drivers licence or Working with Children Check that has been sighted and certified by persons who may witness statutory declarations. Eligible authorised individuals can be found on the Department of Justice website. This is not required for renewals unless the identification provided is no longer current or valid.

Match-maker, referee, judge and timekeeper licence

In addition to completing the online application form, you must provide the following supporting documentation:

  • A skills assessment may be required to ensure you have the competency to undertake the role, if you are a first-time applicant for a licence to act as a judge, referee or timekeeper or are returning to the sport after an absence.
  • A National Police Record Check. Can be obtained from Victoria Police as well as a number of other providers. If using Victoria Police when completing Section E, Option 1 of the application form, your response should be ‘General employment’ and specify ‘Boxing and Combat Sports Licence’ under ‘Role or position. The National Police Record Check should be no older than 3 months prior to the date of your application.
  • One headshot style photograph.
  • A certified copy of government issued photo identification (includes passport, drivers licence or Working with Children Check that has been sighted and certified by persons who may witness statutory declarations. Trainer’s licence

In addition to completing the online application form, you must provide the following supporting documentation:

  • A current first aid certificate. The recognised qualification for first aid is HTLAID011 - Provide First Aid, which is the unit of competency for first aid that is recognised by the Australian Government.
  • A completed Trainer’s Accreditation Exam and statutory declaration.
  • A National Police Record Check. Can be obtained from Victoria Police as well as a number of other providers. If using Victoria Police when completing Section E, Option 1 of the application form, your response should be ‘General employment’ and specify ‘Boxing and Combat Sports Licence’ under ‘Role or position. The National Police Record Check should be no older than 3 months prior to the date of your application.
  • One headshot style photograph.
