Licence officials application
General information
If you intend to participate as a promoter, match-maker, referee, judge, timekeeper or trainer in Victoria you are required to be at least 18 years of age and hold a current licence.
Licence applications may take up to 6 weeks to be considered.
The Board is required to give a copy of your application to Victoria Police, who is required to provide the Board with an assessment of your suitability to hold a licence.
If approved, a licence is valid for 3 years and is subject to a range of conditions and requirements.
Applications
To apply for a licence in Victoria, you must complete an online application form, view a concussion education video as part of that application process, provide supporting documentation and pay the application fee.
The supporting documentation required to complete your application depends on the category of licence that you are seeking to apply for.
Promoter licence
In addition to completing the online application form, you must provide the following supporting documentation:
- A National Police Record Check.
Applications for a National Police Check/National Police Certificate can be obtained from Victoria Police. The type of National Police Check required is the National Name Check.
If applying via the Victoria Police website, once responses to questions regarding identity documents have been completed, applicants will be directed to Service Victoria to complete the online application. When completing the Check Type tab:
- Purpose of your check – you must select ‘General employment’; and
- Position title/occupation – you must enter ‘Boxing and combat sports licence’; and
- Place of work/name of employer – you must enter ‘Professional Boxing and Combat Sports Board of Victoria’.
If applying via the Victoria Police hard copy form, you must complete Option 1 of Section E of the form by:
- selecting ‘General employment’; and
- Role or position title - specify ‘Boxing and combat sports licence’; and
- Proposed employer or industry – specify ‘Professional Boxing and Combat Sports Board of Victoria’.
Do not select one of the licensing purposes listed under Option 1 as these are not relevant to your licence application.
If applying for a National Police Check from another provider, you must include ‘Boxing and combat sports licence’ as the role/position title/course/industry and ‘Professional Boxing and Combat Sports Board of Victoria’ as the place of work/employer/organisation.
You are advised not to apply for your National Police Check from the AFP as the purpose is not relevant to your licence application.
A new National Police Certificate must accompany licence applications. A National Police Certificate obtained for a different purpose is not acceptable.
National Police Certificates should be no older than 3 months prior to the date of the licence application.
- One headshot style photograph.
- A certified copy of government issued photo identification. Includes passport, drivers licence or Working with Children Check that has been sighted and certified by persons who may certify copies of original documents. Eligible authorised individuals can be found on the Department of Justice website. This is not required for renewals unless the identification provided is no longer current or valid.
Match-maker, referee, judge and timekeeper licence
In addition to completing the online application form, you must provide the following supporting documentation:
- A skills assessment may be required to ensure you have the competency to undertake the role, if you are a first-time applicant for a licence to act as a judge, referee or timekeeper or are returning to the sport after an absence.
- A National Police Record Check. Please see above for those instructions.
- One headshot style photograph.
- A certified copy of government issued photo identification (includes passport, drivers licence or Working with Children Check that has been sighted and certified by persons who may certify copies of original documents. Eligible authorised individuals can be found on the Department of Justice website. This is not required for renewals unless the identification provided is no longer current or valid.
Trainer’s licence
In addition to completing the online application form, you must provide the following supporting documentation:
- A current first aid certificate. The recognised qualification for first aid is HTLAID011 - Provide First Aid, which is the unit of competency for first aid that is recognised by the Australian Government.
- A completed Trainer’s Accreditation Exam and statutory declaration.
- A National Police Record Check. Please see above for those instructions.
- One headshot style photograph.
- A certified copy of government issued photo identification (includes passport, drivers licence or Working with Children Check that has been sighted and certified by persons who may witness certified copies of original documents. Eligible authorised individuals can be found on the Department of Justice website. This is not required for renewals unless the identification provided is no longer current or valid.
