Need help?
Read the Frequently Asked Questions for more information about the program.
You can contact the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions at fairgo.forfans@ecodev.vic.gov.au for more information about ticket scalping laws under the Major Events Act 2009 or the content of this site.
If you believe a ticket to a declared event is being advertised or sold for more than 10% above its face value, promoted as part of an unauthorised ticket package, or listed without the mandatory ticket details, you can report the suspected offence for investigation. An Authorised Ticketing Officer will assess the matter and determine whether a violation has occurred.
How do I report misleading or fraudulent activity online?
While the Major Events Act 2009 enables the Authorised Ticketing Officers to take action against ticket scalping (i.e., the resale of tickets above a certain price cap), it does not cover criminal activities such as fraud, deception, or ticket-related scams.
Examples of criminal offences that fall outside the scope of the Major Events Act 2009:
- When someone intentionally deceives another person to gain money or goods such as selling fake tickets or taking payment without delivering tickets.
- Various fraudulent activities, such as selling duplicate tickets, phishing scams, or using fake ticketing websites.
If you have been affected by a ticket scam or purchased a fraudulent ticket, please seek assistance and report the incident to the appropriate authorities:
- Victoria Police - Cybercrime, fraud, scams and online safety
- Consumer Affairs Victoria - Report an issue
- Australian Competition & Consumer Commission - Report a consumer issue
- Scamwatch - Report a scam

If you experience issues with tickets purchased through a resale website, your first step should be to return to the point of purchase. Additionally, your bank or credit card provider may be able to assist with a chargeback.
