Key results

In the year ending September 2025 (released 17 December 2025) tourism in Victoria generated:

  • $46.0 billion in total tourism spend, up 5% year-on-year (YoY).
  • 117.5 million total visitors, up 8% YoY.
  • 168.5 million total nights, up 2% Y

Total tourism data

Explore domestic and international tourism data for Victoria and each of its tourism (sub) regions for the year ending December 2024. This dashboard includes estimates from the IVS and the National Visitor Survey (NVS) dataset which has since been replaced by the enhanced DoTS collection method from 1 January 2025. This is an interim tool to provide access to a broader range of estimates during the transition to the new DoTS methodology. NVS data should not be directly compared to new published DoTS data. Total tourism data

Visitor forecasts

Tourism Research Australia have published national tourism forecasts for 2025 to 2030. A full national report, and international and domestic data tables, are now available at tra.gov.au.

Victorian spend and visitor projections are developed by Visit Victoria. These estimates are largely based on national growth rates, assuming a constant market share. Domestic overnight trips by purpose are the only state/territory specific metric forecast by TRA.

By 2030 it is projected that Victoria will receive:

  • $57.2 billion in total spend, up 22.2 per cent on 2025 estimates
  • 133.1 million total visitors, up 11.3 per cent on 2025 estimates

First Peoples tourism in Victoria

In 2023, visitors to Victoria who included First Peoples activities on their trip accounted for:

  • $1.3 billion in total tourism expenditure
  • 511,000 overnight trips, with 65% by international visitors
  • 2% of overnight visitors to/within Victoria, in line with the national average.

Headline figures include domestic overnight visitors who have undertaken a First Peoples activity in Victoria, as well as international overnight visitors that have undertaken the activity on their trip to/within Australia (which could have been taken in another state or territory).
