Contestants

If you intend to compete in a professional boxing or combats sports contest in Victoria, you are required to hold a current registration.

A contestant registration is valid for 3 years and can be renewed.

New applicants and renewals

To apply to register as a professional contestant in Victoria, you must be aged 18 years or older, complete an online application form, view the concussion education video as part of that application process, provide supporting documentation, pay the application fee and satisfy prescribed prerequisites.

The supporting documentation required to complete your application includes:

  1. A completed Certificate of Fitness form Certificate of Fitness form (DOCX 228.61 KB) DOCX icon. Signed and completed by a medical practitioner and dated no earlier than 14 days before the date of your application.
  2. A completed Blood Testing form Blood Testing form (DOCX 191.93 KB) DOCX icon. Signed and completed by a medical practitioner and dated no earlier than 6 months before the date of your application).
  3. A completed Statement of Recommendation from a licensed trainer or match maker Statement of Recommendation from a licensed trainer or match maker (DOCX 228.4 KB) DOCX icon confirming that, in their opinion, you have the appropriate skills to compete in a professional contest. This is not required for renewals.
  4. One headshot-style photograph.
  5. A certified copy of government issued photo identification as satisfactory evidence of age. Satisfactory evidence can include a current passport, current Australian driver licence or current Working with Children Check that has been sighted and certified by a person authorised to certify copies of original documents. A list of authorised persons can be found on the Department of Justice and Community Safety website. This is not required for renewals unless the identification provided is no longer current or valid.

Requirements of contestants

Registered contestants are required to comply with a range of conditions associated with their registration. Registered contestants must also comply with the Board’s Code of Conduct, the Act, the Regulations and the Board’s rules for the conduct of professional contests in Victoria.

The Board may make, vary or revoke any conditions specific to a contestant registration and will write to contestants to advise of any changes. Failure to comply with the conditions may result in changes to the conditions or suspension or cancellation of a contestant registration.

Registered contestants are encouraged to be informed of the offences in the Act and the applicable penalties for breach of an offence.

Code of conduct

Contestants are expected to exhibit exemplar standards at all times and not engage in:

  • Violent, threatening, obscene, indecent, or abusive language or behaviour.
  • Vilification of any kind towards another person.
  • Discrimination against another person based on their age, gender or sexual orientation.
  • Discrimination against another person based on their race, culture, religion or any other irrelevant personal characteristic.
  • Sexual harassment, intimidation or victimisation of another person.
  • Competition manipulation and gambling on any activity that you are directly or indirectly connected to.
  • Improper use of drugs and medicines.
  • Conduct that is detrimental to the reputation or interests of the boxing and combat sports industry.
