More than 100 young Victorians competed in the 2025 WorldSkills National Championships and Skills Show in Brisbane. It is Australia’s largest trades and skills competition.

Team Victoria included:

  • 101 apprentices and trainees
  • 25 secondary school students
  • more than 100 mentors and team leaders.

There were 3 days of fierce competition. Victorians took home 48 medals, including:

  • 19 gold medals
  • 14 silver medals
  • 15 bronze medals.

They also received 26 Certificates of Excellence.Lily-Grace Toohill holding medals

Nationally the top award went to Lily-Grace Toohill, a jewellery-making student at Melbourne Polytechnic. She was named Best of Nation for being the highest-performing competitor across all categories.

The Melbourne East Region was awarded the Evatt Shield for being the best-performing region across Australia.

In total, more than 600 of Australia’s top apprentices, trainees and vocational students competed in more than 60 skill categories including:

  • plumbing
  • cyber security
  • health care
  • carpentry
  • web design
  • hairdressing
  • floristry
  • automotive mechanics.

Eligible medallists from the national championships now have the chance to join a skills squad and earn a spot on Team Australia – also known as the Skillaroos. The Skillaroos will represent Australia at the international WorldSkills competition in Shanghai in 2026.

Training for many of the skills demonstrated by WorldSkills is available free from tuition fees in Victoria through the Free TAFE program, making training and career pathways even more accessible.
