Trade and investment


Global Victoria and the Jobs, Innovation and Business Engagement group lead the Victorian Government's strategy to increase the state's export opportunities and develop key sectors to create Victorian jobs and drive economic growth.

Both work closely with priority industry sectors, including medical technologies and pharmaceuticals, new energy technology, food and fibre, transport technologies, defence, construction technologies, international education and professional services.


Strategies and initiatives

Access Program

The Access Program offers export-related assistance and in-country expertise to Victorian companies visiting overseas markets, particularly the Americas, Japan, South Korea, Middle East, North Africa and Turkey, China, India and Southeast Asia.'

Advancing Victorian Manufacturing

Advancing Victoria's Manufacturing. A Blueprint for the Future provides the vision for the Victorian manufacturing industry, focusing on areas that will prepare Victorians for the jobs of the future, encourage innovation, build scale, capability and supply chain excellence, and foster a globally competitive business environment.

Australian Medtech Manufacturing Centre

The Australian Medtech Manufacturing Centre (AMMC) is a Victorian Government initiative supporting the growth of medtech manufacturing in Victoria, creating new jobs, enhancing skills and increasing investment.

Export Skills Program

The Export skills program provides new exporters with essential education and training to be export-ready. The Victorian Government offers this program through partnerships with various industry associations.

Go Global

Go Global is a free online tool for Victorian businesses with a registered ABN to find out what support is available to them for improving export capabilities.

Local Jobs First

The Victorian Government is the largest procurer of goods, services and construction works in the state, and uses its purchasing power to help develop local industries, create jobs and boost economic activity across Victoria.

Victoria’s e Local Jobs First policy is the strongest  industry development procurement regime in Australia. It is designed to ensure that local businesses are given full and fair opportunity to compete for large and small Victorian government contracts — ensuring that local projects create opportunities for Victorian businesses and workers.

Helping Victorian businesses take on the world

Global Victoria opens the world to Victorian businesses by building their skills and knowledge for international growth and promoting them to audiences in key global markets.

Trade missions

Trade missions provide Victorian exporters with opportunities to build international connections and develop a better understanding of global markets. Trade missions are typically sectoral focused and Global Victoria develops tailored programs for participating businesses, supported in-market through an international network of more than 20 Victorian Government Trade and Investment (VGTI) offices.

Investor migration and global talent attraction

The Victorian skilled and business migration program brings investment and jobs to Victoria through the attraction of investor and business migrants. The program also attracts high calibre global talent to meet Victoria's ongoing workforce needs in high priority occupations that cannot be accessed locally.

Governor of Victoria Export Awards (GOVEA)

The Governor of Victoria Export Awards celebrate the innovation and hard work of exporters across a range of sectors including agribusiness, business services, creative industries, digital technologies, e-commerce, education and training, environment, health and biotechnology, manufacturing, minerals, energy and regional development.

There are a variety of scholarships for international students in Victoria.

Victorian International Education Awards

The Victorian International Education Awards are an initiative of the Victorian Government to support the international education sector and raise awareness of the sector’s benefits to the broader community and recognise the outstanding accomplishments of the students, staff and institutions that make up Victoria’s thriving international education sector.

Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Awards

The Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame recognises excellence in manufacturing. There are a number of categories under which manufacturers can submit nominations including the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Honour Roll.-->

Global Victoria

Global Victoria works with businesses to build their export capabilities and connect them to international opportunities through tailored programs, trade missions and a network of over 20 trade and investment offices around the world. The group advocates for the best policy settings so that Victorian companies can be competitive in the global arena. It also promotes Victoria as the best place for further study and skills development through the state's world-class universities and training institutions.

Development Victoria

Development Victoria delivers property development, urban renewal and major civic projects on behalf of the government for the Victorian community.

Projects include:

  • Precinct renewal, such as the Revitalisation of Central Dandenong, Junction Place in Wodonga, and the ongoing development of Docklands
  • Civic projects, such as the State Library of Victoria, Flinders Street Station and Melbourne Park redevelopments
  • Residential developments, such as Riverwalk in Werribee and CIRQ in Point Cook.
