A new Visitor Experience Centre being built at the Twelve Apostles has reached its highest point. The rooftop structure is now complete where a lookout will showcase the area’s stunning landscape.

It’s a major milestone in the $126 million redevelopment of the broader precinct. The project will transform people’s experience at the state’s most visited natural destination.

Construction of the project is creating up to 90 jobs, with a range of companies from the region delivering key components. Further jobs will be created once the visitor centre is completed and operational.

The redevelopment of the Twelve Apostles visitor precinct is part of the Geelong City Deal. It is a $676 million investment by the Australian and Victorian governments, and local councils. The investment is delivering projects that unlock the potential of the Great Ocean Road region visitor economy.

Other projects funded through the Geelong City Deal include:

  • the Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Events Centre
  • the redevelopment of Point Grey in Lorne
  • the delivery of major improvements at the Apollo Bay Harbour precinct.

At the Twelve Apostles, the new centre will create a world-class gateway to the famous coastline and beyond. It will provide a boost to the regional and visitor economy.

The project will encourage longer stays and increased spending from the more than 2 million people who visit the Twelve Apostles each year.

Once complete, the centre will include:

  • retail
  • hospitality
  • a rooftop lookout
  • Welcome Garden
  • engaging opportunities to learn about Eastern Maar cultural heritage and the surrounding landscape.

There will also be extensive car and bus parking, landscaping, revegetation, and new road infrastructure.
