Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix revs up Phillip Island’s economy
Phillip Island has again welcomed sports fans from around the world to the 2026 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, regional Australia’s biggest international sporting event.
The 3-day event welcomed approximately 91,245 visitors – over 11,000 more attendees from last years’ event. It is the highest total estimated attendance since Casey Stoner’s last win at Phillip Island in 2012.
The Aussie’s put on a good show for their home crowd.
Senna Agius won the Moto2 race. Senna is the first Australian to ever win a Moto2 race in Australia.
Australian Joel Kelso took out second place in the Moto3 race, with Spain’s Raul Fernandez winning the MotoGP. He stunned the MotoGP paddock with a dominant first grand prix win.
Alongside the high-octane competition was a bustling program of off-track entertainment and activations for the whole family.
It’s blockbuster events like this that help regional Victoria’s tourism and major events sector continue to grow. They pack our hotels, restaurants and bars and delivering an important boost to local businesses.
Data released last month showed that from April to June 2025 Victorians spent $1.8 billion visiting regional Victoria. International visitors spent $832 million in the state’s regions in the past financial year.
The Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix is the latest in a line up of major event delivering real benefits to Victoria.
Other marquee major events coming up in the next several months include:
- the summer Westwood/ Kawakubo exhibition at NGV
- Lenny Kravitz live in Mildura
- the Ashes test match 2025-26 as Australia hosts England on Boxing Day.
These events all contribute to the state’s $43.7 billion visitor economy which supports 288,000 jobs across the Victoria.
