Backing international students to study with Victoria
Study with Victoria is the Victorian Government's vision for the future of international education for the state.
The strategy will:
- strengthen Victoria’s position as a global leader
- support our international students to thrive
- ensure all Victorians benefit from a strong, dynamic sector.
The strategy focuses on:
- enhancing the student experience
- expanding transnational education opportunities
- strengthening Victoria's reputation as a world-class education destination.
When international students choose Victoria they bring new ideas, skills and perspectives that strengthen our economy and enrich our communities.
In 2025, there were 322,000 international student enrolments in Victoria, with students from around 170 countries.
As Victoria’s largest single export, the international education sector also generated $17.9 billion in export revenue and supported around 69,000 jobs.
The strategy highlights our department’s strong support for international students and the sector through:
- the Study Melbourne Hub
- a range of free upskill and connect professional development programs
- the Study Melbourne Inclusion Program
- the Global Education Network
- the Victorian International Education Awards
- the International Student Travel Pass
- advocacy to the Commonwealth Government.
It also outlines opportunities to grow transnational education. This includes our $5 million Yes to International Students Fund, which supports Victorian universities and TAFEs to take Victorian education to the world.
The strategy is supported by $18.6 million over 2 years in the 2025–26 Budget.
