We’re creating Innovation Victoria to grow the startup and innovation ecosystem by bringing together LaunchVic and Breakthrough Victoria into one organisation.

Innovation Victoria will provide a new single front door for founders, researchers, entrepreneurs and investors – helping more people to turn good ideas into successful companies built to scale and compete globally.

Through practical tools, tailored programs, expert advice and clear pathways to funding and customers, Innovation Victoria helps innovators take their next step and make great ideas a commercial reality.

Melbourne-based Navi Medical Technologies highlights the impact of that support in action.

Navi has developed a medical device that helps doctors and nurses provide vital care to seriously ill babies and children. It is a life-changing innovation developed in Victoria.

Both LaunchVic and Breakthrough Victoria have supported their journey, providing assistance at multiple stages.

Across Victoria’s startup ecosystem, LaunchVic has played a critical role in building founder capability, networks and confidence. Breakthrough Victoria has provided long-term funding and support to help turn world-class research into businesses with global impact.

Since 2017, Victoria’s startup ecosystem has grown nearly 20-fold to more than 4,400 companies valued at $139 billion. Breakthrough Victoria has helped shape the future of Victoria’s economy, investing in companies, funds, and platforms. It has committed $497 million across 91 investments, and crowding in $1.41 billion in co-investment capital.

Innovation Victoria carries these proven successes forward to form a stronger, more connected system than ever before.

Rod Bristow has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Innovation Victoria. He brings extensive experience across finance, investment and environmental markets.

As the new organisation is established, the Hon. John Brumby AO, Chair of Breakthrough Victoria, and Leigh Jasper, Chair of LaunchVic, will depart their roles after a period of outstanding leadership and impact.

The appointment process for the new Chair and Board is underway.

Innovation Victoria will support our youngest and most productive firms through the full journey – from early ideas through to growth, scale and impact.
