Big boost for manufacturing in Melbourne’s south-east
Victoria continues to attract investment, strengthening Melbourne's south-east as the nation's manufacturing powerhouse.
Six local manufacturers across Bayswater, Clayton, Dandenong South and Hallam are expanding their operations in Victoria:
- PPG has modernised its manufacturing facility with new machinery and technology
- Axent is establishing an engineering centre of excellence for critical infrastructure information systems
- TNA is boosting production of food processing and packaging machinery
- Volgren is making more Zero Emission Buses to meet growing demand
- Bar Crusher Boats is growing its operations and adding a new production line
- EVO Power is expanding its battery centre of excellence for energy storage innovation.
Together, these manufacturers are investing $68.2 million in the region, creating 312 new local jobs.
Greater South-East Melbourne is the largest and most significant manufacturing hub in the country. The region employs more than a quarter of the state's manufacturing workforce.
According to Deloitte Access Economics:
- the region is home to over 3,800 manufacturers and 75,000 jobs
- it produces approximately $89 billion in economic output.
More broadly, Victoria's nation-leading manufacturing sector boasts the nation's largest workforce – employing more than 260,000 people and generating over $29 billion in annual exports.
The Victorian Industry Policy and the $150 million Victorian Investment Fund are driving jobs and the economy by backing investments in priority industries.
