Boosting multicultural business precincts

Victoria is one of Australia’s most culturally diverse states. More than 56% of small businesses are multicultural businesses.

Victoria’s diverse cultures can be seen and celebrated in our multicultural business precincts.

These precincts are unique places where people can gather, shop, work, invest and connect. They are an important feature of the state’s economy and communities.

Our new Good Practice Guide and Multicultural Business Precinct Revitalisation Program will help business precincts continue to thrive.

The guide provides guidance for:

  • businesses
  • business associations
  • local councils
  • partners
  • key stakeholders.

By working together, these organisations can make local businesses stronger. They can improve public spaces and attract more visitors. When multicultural business precincts thrive, everyone in the community benefits.

The guide is the first of its kind in Australia encouraging collaboration to create stronger precincts. It includes information such as:

  • improving amenity, public spaces and visitation
  • promotional events and celebrating culture
  • marketing and branding
  • managing disruptions
  • engaging businesses
  • good governance
  • monitoring and promoting achievements.

The guide will also inform councils to apply for a grant from the Multicultural Business Precinct Revitalisation Program. It'll support local councils’ upgrades and revitalisation of Victoria’s multicultural business precincts.
