The new Twelve Apostles Precinct Redevelopment is taking shape.

Construction on the world-class Visitor Experience Centre is now well underway. It will be the centrepiece of the $126 million Twelve Apostles Precinct Redevelopment and a gateway to Shipwreck Coast.

The Twelve Apostles will continue to attract visitors for years to come. With more than 2 million visitors per year, it is an important part of Victoria’s tourism economy.

The Twelve Apostles Precinct Redevelopment is part the Shipwreck Coast Master Plan. The plan responds to the growing visitor numbers and improves infrastructure through:

  • sustainable tourism
  • job creation
  • development of new services and amenities.

Over time, the Shipwreck Coast Master Plan will deliver a projected increase of $254 million in annual spending.

The redevelopment is creating local jobs. Construction of the centre expects to provide the equivalent of 90 full-time positions. Upon opening, the centre will have up to 50 ongoing jobs.

The centre will feature:

  • retail and hospitality spaces (decided in consultation with industry)
  • exhibitions
  • office space
  • a rooftop lookout with sweeping views of the Shipwreck Coast.

Building on the Victorian Government’s continuing partnership with the Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation (EMAC), the Traditional Owner group for the area, the redevelopment includes a new Welcome Garden which will celebrate the community’s cultural and environmental values.

Visitors can look forward to an education and interpretation experience that includes the area’s:

  • First Nations history
  • Caring for Country
  • language
  • culture
  • truth telling through time.
