Discovering Echuca’s rich cultural history
Echuca’s rich history is on display in the upgraded Discovery Centre located at the town’s iconic port.
Key upgrades bring Echuca’s history to life through physical, digital and audio exhibits at the Port of Echuca Discovery Centre.
The project delivered:
- new digital enhancements for the Paddlesteamer Success exhibit and the indoor museum
- updates to the Strathmerton Station and the A2 Locomotive exhibit, as well as signage and digital displays at the indoor and open-air Museums
- development of First Peoples museum exhibit and digital exhibit
- new interactive games for youths at the Cargo Shed
- enhancement of the steam garage, Log Slip and digital Log Slip exhibits
- installation of an audio loop system in the indoor museum to improve accessibility.

A highlight of the project is a stunning mural by Yorta Yorta artist Stuart Hearn. The mural is based on a creation story that Stuart was told as a child. It features images of the story’s key figures, including Biami, the All-Father and Gane, the Rainbow Serpent.
As creation stories can only be told by elders, the mural also features an audio recording of the story being told by Yorta Yorta Elder, Uncle Des Morgan.
From July to September 2025, nearly 67,000 travellers made their way through the upgraded centre. With exciting new experiences waiting to be explored, it's a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the region.
This project was delivered thanks to a $600,000 investment from the Regional Tourism Investment Fund.
