Five Star paddlesteamer to propel Murray tourism
A world-first, 5-star paddlesteamer has officially launched on the iconic Murray River at Echuca.
PS Australian Star is the largest paddlesteamer in the southern hemisphere and will transform river tourism with its luxurious multi-day cruises.
The vessel is the only wood-fired, 5-star paddlesteamer in the world. Welcoming up to 38 passengers, PS Australian Star offers a mix of old-world charm and modern comforts. It offers one-of-a-kind luxury cruising and showcases the breathtaking landscapes of one of Victoria's most beloved rivers.
This is a project led and delivered by Victorians. Built by local company Murray River Paddlesteamers, Victorian contractors Baldwin Boats, Mega Marine, and Jointly. The project created 46 jobs during construction and into its ongoing operations.
Travellers can indulge in 3, 4, and 7-night cruises aboard the PS Australian Star. Highlights include:
- bars
- fine dining restaurant
- spacious guest lounge with panoramic river views
- 9 ensuite cabins, some of which are accessible
- function space, and
- an elevator for added convenience.
The Victorian Government supported this project with $2.25 million from the Regional Tourism Investment Fund.
Tourism is a big business in Echuca, with the stunning regional town taking home Bronze at the recent Australia’s Top Tourism Town Awards.
