Tractor in a fieldVictoria is the nation’s premier state for food and fibre exports, with exports reaching a record $19.6 billion in 2022-23.

The release the Food and Fibre Export Performance Report 2022-23 shows Victoria is Australia’s largest food and fibre exporter by value – accounting for 24% of the national total.

Thanks to the hard work of Victorian farmers and food and beverage manufacturers, the state achieved an overall increase of 7% in export value on the previous year.

Grain was our largest export, increasing by 26% to reach $5.6 billion in value, while meat was the second largest at $4.5 billion. Other highlights include a 13% increase in horticulture exports and a 12% increase in beverage exports (excluding wine).

Food and fibre exports increased in the majority of Victoria’s key markets including China and the United States, while also seeing significant market diversification in regions such as Southeast Asia.

The results highlight the growing global demand for Victoria’s high-quality, safe and sustainable produce and the ability of our farmers and food manufacturers to innovate and seize new market opportunities.
