Grand Prix grandstand honour for hometown hero
Melbourne born-and-raised motorsports champion Oscar Piastri will be immortalised at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
The grandstand along the main straight of the Albert Park circuit will be called the Piastri Grandstand from next year’s Grand Prix.
Oscar Piastri has already become one of the most awarded Australian motorsports athletes of all time in just his third season of Formula 1.
He has matched or surpassed the number of career wins by some of his fellow Australian Formula 1 drivers.
Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO Travis Auld said it was an appropriate honour for Piastri.
“Oscar has achieved incredible success in his early career across karting, F3, F2 and now in F1. It is only fitting that we honour Oscar’s incredible rise in the sport with a dedicated grandstand at his home Grand Prix,” he said.
The Piastri Grandstand will add more local flavour to the event, which is one of the highest attended races on the Formula 1 calendar.
This year’s Formula 1 Grand Prix was the biggest and best yet, with a record high estimated attendance of 465,498 – more than 13,000 higher than the previous year.
The 2025 race pumped more than $320 million into the economy. It also supported more than 1600 full-time jobs.
Melbourne has secured the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix until 2037. It is a cornerstone of Victoria’s blockbuster major events calendar, that delivers more than $3.3 billion in annual economic value to the state.
The Piastri Grandstand announcement arrives ahead of tickets to the 2026 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix going on sale in September.
