Kicking goals for international students in Victoria
Grants of up to $30,000 are being provided to deliver a range of well-being projects for international students. This will ensure they have a great time studying and living in Victoria and feel a strong sense of belonging to the local community.
The AFL will deliver a program in partnership with the North Melbourne and Western Bulldogs AFL clubs. They will engage up to 200 students who will learn how to play the beloved Australian game and be taken to live AFL matches.
This will build a social connection to the game and confidence engaging in what is a huge part of Victoria’s community and culture.
Other projects this year support the Victorian community’s capacity to connect with international students – from art and food workshops to road and water safety sessions, and professional development.
Since 2015, the Study Melbourne Inclusion Program has funded 178 projects to the value of $7.8 million. The program has supported more than 238,000 international students.
Victoria is home to the nation’s top universities, TAFEs and private colleges. It is also home to globally recognised sporting and cultural events and rich multicultural networks, making it the ideal place to study, work and live.
In 2025 Melbourne was once again voted Australia’s Best Student City – and the 5th best in the world.
The Victorian Budget 2025/26 is investing $18.6 million in international education programs and services. This includes the Study Melbourne Inclusion Program.
