The 14th World Chambers Congress has opened in Melbourne. It attracts visitors from across the country and around the world.

The congress is a major business event that has welcomed over 800 chamber executives, business leaders, government representatives and industry experts from more than 100 countries.

Melbourne is hosting the congress for the first time. It’s running from 2 to 4 September at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Known as the ‘business olympics’, the event is every 2 years to:

  • promote collaboration
  • grow networks
  • foster innovation.

This year’s congress is cementing Victoria as an international hub for trade, investment and innovation. We are supporting the congress. It’s co-organised by the International Chamber of Commerce World Chambers Federation and the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The theme of this year’s event is ‘Business, chambers, government: Partners for prosperity’. It will cover key global topics including:

  • the clean energy transition
  • AI and digital leadership
  • life sciences
  • future workforce
  • global trade.

The Victorian Government’s Trade and Investment (VGTI) network of 23 international offices delivers our economic growth agenda across the globe. Several of the network’s Commissioners have returned to Melbourne for the congress to forge new international partnerships and business opportunities.

Business events like the congress play a significant role in Victoria’s visitor economy. In 2024, 5.6% of all visitors to the state – or 4.8 million people – attended business events, spending $4.3 billion in the state.
