A ceremony was held to celebrate this major milestone at the site in Fitzroy, which is Australia’s first collaborative, hospital-based biomedical engineering research centre.

The $206 million centre brings together clinicians, scientists and engineers from hospitals, research institutes and universities all under the same roof for cutting-edge research and development.

Currently based at the ACMD BioFab facility in Fitzroy, the new ACMD will support more than 300 new jobs and forms part of Melbourne’s biomedical precinct – attracting and retaining leading medical researchers by offering world-class facilities and opportunities.

Victoria is a world-leading health and medical research hub – home to 18 independent medical research institutes which employ nearly 6,000 people.

Practical completion of the centre is scheduled for late 2024, and is due to open early 2025.
