The hubs will give Aboriginal businesses more opportunities to connect, provide access and support towards business development, and showcase Aboriginal businesses within the region.
The facilities and services at each hub will be designed to meet the needs of the local communities. Example of the services may include:
- tourism and hospitality initiatives
- mentoring
- leadership training
- networking opportunities
- community workshops.
The Victorian Government has invested $3.25 million to help establish the 5 new hubs.
The economic hub model is successful in Victoria. 4 hubs are now open, including:
- Murran in Geelong led by Ngarrimili
- DUMAWUL Hub in Bendigo created by Traditional Owner group DJAARA
- Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) Community Economic Hub in Morwell
- Wadawurrung Aboriginal Economic Hub in the centre of Ballarat.
Helping Aboriginal businesses to start, grow and compete locally and globally is aligned to the Yuma Yirramboi (Invest in Tomorrow) Strategy. This is key for achieving economic parity for Aboriginal Victorians within a generation.
