A spectacular new viewing platform is open at the Loch Ard Gorge Blowhole in Port Campbell National Park.

It received an $8 million investment from our Regional Tourism Investment Fund.

The lookout is named Poombeeyt Koontapool. It means ‘Breath of the Whale’ in the Keerray Woorroong language.

The new lookout is informed by the story of Koontapool, the Southern Right Whale. The platform curves organically into the landscape. It blends into its natural surroundings, with stunning views of the Blowhole.

The lookout will amplify the senses. It's designed to heighten the sound of waves, the movement of ocean spray, and the power of the elements. It pays respect to the cultural and environmental significance of the location.

Seating, signage and upgraded paths will allow thousands of visitors each month to experience the Blowhole as part of their trip to the Great Ocean Road.

The project finalises all works funded under the Stage 1 of the Shipwreck Coast Masterplan. These works include the new lookout at the Twelve Apostles Precinct and the Port Campbell Creek pedestrian bridge.

These works complement the $126 million Twelve Apostles Precinct Redevelopment project. The project aims to enhance the visitor experience of one of the state’s most popular tourism destinations, boosting local businesses and communities.
