Major milestone for life-changing mRNA treatments
It’s a great day for medical research in Victoria!
Global biotech leader BioNTech has opened a new R&D mRNA manufacturing lab at La Trobe University in Melbourne, which will boost Victoria’s capacity to bring life-changing mRNA treatment to patients faster.
The lab will support groundbreaking research, developing new mRNA vaccines and therapies.
The R&D lab will sit alongside BioNTech’s new clinical mRNA manufacturing Centre. Set to be completed by the end of 2026, it will produce next-generation mRNA vaccines and treatments for clinical trials. This will help speed up the translation of research into medical breakthroughs in infectious diseases, rare diseases and cancer.
We're the only place in the world where both global mRNA leaders have R&D and manufacturing facilities.
We’ve invested more than $1.1 billion in health and medical research over a decade.
This investment is:
- boosting research
- creating jobs
- supporting incredible breakthroughs in treatment and care.
