Monash Velos Accelerator set to fast-track health research

Victoria is at the heart of health innovation with the opening of a new research accelerator.

The Monash Velos Accelerator will focus on the connections between obesity, diabetes, chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease.

The hub will fast-track the invention and development of:

  • heart health therapies
  • clinical products
  • cardiac technology
  • new and innovative models of care.

The Velos Accelerator is in the Monash Technology Precinct in Clayton. It is integrated with the Victorian Heart Hospital and Victorian Heart Institute.

The facility will enable Monash University to deliver greater innovation in biotechnology, pharmaceutical and cardiovascular disease research. It will help to provide better health outcomes for Victorians.

Features of the Velos Accelerator include:

  • research and collaboration spaces for start-ups, industry and manufacturers
  • access to cutting-edge equipment and technology.

The Velos Accelerator was jointly funded by the Victorian Government and Monash University. This includes a $17.5 million investment from the Victorian Higher Education State Investment Fund.
