Victoria’s new Clinical Trials Action Plan sets out a roadmap to grow Victoria's clinical trials sector by:

  • strengthening the workforce
  • enhancing coordination between trial sites
  • expanding access to trials
  • strengthening the pathway from research to real-world impact

No matter where they live, more Victorians will be able to take part in clinical trials.

The plan supports flexible delivery models that reduce travel, improve access and help people participate closer to home. It also includes investments such as the Regional Access to Clinical Trials in the West (ReACT West) initiative. ReACT West is boosting clinical trials in Victoria’s west, to bring more trials closer to communities across western Victoria.

We’re a national leader in clinical trials activity. More clinical trials take place in Victoria than in any other state. This helps give patients earlier access to cutting-edge care. Almost 70% of FDA-approved novel drugs in 2025 were supported by Victorian clinical trial activity.

Clinical trials based in Victoria have delivered breakthroughs with global impact. Innovations like the cochlear implant and major advances in IVF have improved the lives of millions worldwide.

Building on our strong history of medical breakthroughs, the Clinical Trials Action Plan will help Victoria stay a clinical trial leader and ensure more Victorians benefit from the treatments of tomorrow.
