New TAFE Health and Community Centre of Excellence opens in Broadmeadows

A new healthcare and community services training centre has opened at Kangan Institute. It delivers modern facilities for students. It is also a hub for Victoria’s healthcare sector and the TAFE network to innovate.

The Health and Community Centre of Excellence provides training in areas such as:

  • nursing and community services
  • aged care
  • childcare
  • mental health
  • disability
  • justice
  • pathology
  • allied health and
  • healthcare support services.

The centre features modern laboratories. These laboratories simulate health and community services environments.

Flexible learning spaces in the centre mean training can be delivered in a variety of ways. This includes a multi-purpose immersion gallery with a 360-degree screen.

Students at the centre will also have access to real-world learning opportunities. This is through partnerships that Kangan Institute has with local healthcare providers like DPV Health and Northern Health.

Victoria’s TAFE Centres of Excellence are leading in applied research and collaboration with industry and other training providers. This ensures TAFEs are delivering the skills our industries and economy need. Kangan Institute will be one of Victoria’s lead TAFEs in health and community services. They will sharing the outcomes of its work with the wider TAFE network.

The Victorian Government has invested $60 million in this project.

Victoria’s Free TAFE program helps trainees on their paths towards a rewarding career in vital areas such as healthcare.

Some of the courses on offer at the new Kangan Institute Centre are included in the Free TAFE program. These include:

  • allied health
  • mental health
  • community services
  • aging support and
  • disability support.
