Oscar-winning visual effects company Wētā FX expands in Victoria

We are backing world-famous visual effects company Wētā FX to expand its Australian headquarters in Melbourne.

Wētā FX is an Academy Award-winning visual effects (VFX) company that has worked on blockbuster films including The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Avatar: The Way of Water. Its most recent project was the Robbie Williams biopic Better Man, which was filmed in Melbourne and nominated for an Academy Award in 2025.

With their trailblazing work recognised in Hollywood and around the world, Wētā FX is an influential global player in the film and television industry.

The expanded Melbourne hub is set to attract international productions to the state and grow the pipeline of Victorian and Australian-made productions.

Wētā FX’s growing Australian footprint will also create up to 80 highly-skilled jobs in production and animation, making Victoria as a destination for world-class post-production, digital and visual effects services.
