Geelong’s visitor economy is set for a major boost.

Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre has secured more than 56 events and are hiring for over 100 casual jobs ahead of its July 2026 launch.

That's a strong start for Geelong’s newest tourism and business events drawcard.

The events are expected to inject $13 million into the local economy through delegate spending on:

  • accommodation
  • dining
  • retail
  • local attractions.

To date, more than 21,800 delegates are expected to attend the confirmed events through to 2028, across business, education and medical sectors.

A standout on the program is the 2026 Australian Tourism Awards, booked in for March 2027. The event was secured through a joint bid by the Victorian Government, Visit Victoria, City of Greater Geelong, Tourism Greater Geelong and the Bellarine, and the Victorian Convention and Event Trust.

Securing tourism's night of nights cements Nyaal Banyul’s emerging profile as a premier national destination for major conferences.
To support this growing pipeline, Nyaal Banyul has launched its first large‑scale recruitment campaign.

More than 100 casual roles now open across hospitality, customer service and event delivery. This includes over 50 hospitality positions. Roles include:

  • chefs
  • stewards
  • food and beverage attendants
  • AV technicians
  • logistics operators
  • event setup attendants, and
  • customer service professionals.

Once operational, Nyaal Banyul will be supported by 41 permanent and around 200 casual staff, contributing significantly to local employment growth.
