The High Country - Victoria's home of 2-wheeled adventure - is getting 5 fresh trails for mountain bikers to discover at Mount Buller.

Construction will soon begin to deliver close to 10 km of single-track mountain bike trails. This is possible thanks to support through the Regional Tourism Investment Fund.

There’s something for every level of mountain biking. Two ‘easy’ trails will be great option for beginners and families to test their skills. Three gravity trails will appeal to those who prefer their ride to be adrenaline packed. These are fast flowing downhill trails, packed with jumps and technical sections.

The trails will be added to the existing 60 km of trail network. The trails will improve connectivity through the Mt Buller and Mt Stirring trail network. They will also provide better access between the Alpine Resorts.

Many of the routes established by the new trails will take more than a single day to complete. This will support overnight visitation to the Alpine region. Upon completion, the project expects to increase summer visitors by 5,000 each year.

Modelling indicates that increased visitation due to the trails will generate $5.2 million for the Victorian economy annually. It will also support 52 full-time jobs.

Construction is due for completion in April so that the new trails are open in time for the Easter holidays.

This year Mt Buller hosted the National Mountain Biking Championships, which brought in more than 4000 visitors. The 2026 championship is also locked in at Mt Buller. The expanded trail network is expected to attract more high-profile mountain biking events from around Australia.

The trails will be delivered by Alpine Resorts Victoria who also contributed to the project.

Drawing visitors to the High Country is big business for Victoria. Research from Alpine Resorts Victoria estimates that alpine resorts contribute more than $2 billion annually to the Victorian economy. They also generate 12,130 full-time jobs.
