Portland reels in more jobs and businesses
Our groundwork to make the Portland North Employment Precinct a reality has brought a major employer to town.
Bunnings is supporting more than 50 jobs at its new Portland location. This adds to the 50 local workers hired for the construction of the new warehouse.
The warehouse is located in the precinct. The precinct is 10-hectares of land unlocked for commercial use. This included the construction of key road and drainage infrastructure through a Victorian Government investment.
This precinct has opened the door for businesses like Bunnings to set up in Portland.
The precinct, delivered by Glenelg Shire Council, is funded by $2.5 million from the Government’s $17.4 million Portland Economic Diversification Plan to strengthen and expand the local economy.
The plan is backing ongoing initiatives across Glenelg Shire to stimulate the economy. This is through new jobs and investments that support more business activity.
We're continuing its focus on delivering trunk infrastructure to regional Victoria as part of the Economic Growth Statement. This includes infrastructure to open the door to more industrial land across the state like:
- water supply
- sewerage
- roads
- electricity.
It’s part of an ongoing commitment to ensure that regional Victoria is open for business.
