Australia’s first accredited training program to service hydrogen vehicles is now underway thanks to support from our Skills Solutions Partnerships program.

The training is co-designed by Kangan Institute and Foton Mobility Distribution. It will equip automotive technicians with the skills and knowledge to service and maintain zero-emissions hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles.

These vehicles use hydrogen fuel to power an electric motor. They're seen as part of the solution to decarbonise Australia's long-haul freight sector.

Victoria leads the nation in refuelling infrastructure. We have 3 renewable hydrogen refuelling stations operating in the state. This includes Australia’s only public station.

The program brings industry, TAFEs and dual sector universities together. They can address skills gaps in priority sectors via co-design and pilots to create:

  • new short courses
  • on-the-job training.

As part of the Economic Growth Statement, we're providing $4.75 million to extend the Skills Solutions Partnerships Program. Expressions of interest for Round 2 have recently closed. We'll announce the successful project in the coming months.
