Short courses making it easier for plumbers to get skills

Plumbers are finding it easier to get the licences they need to join Victoria’s construction workforce.

Thanks to new Free TAFE short courses, plumbers can take the units they need to get their licences without enrolling in another full qualification. And they can do it free from tuition fees.

We are supporting the training sector and industry to work together to develop flexible short courses called ‘skill sets’. These nationally recognised courses rapidly respond to emerging or evolving skills needs.

Seven plumbing skill sets were added to the list of Free TAFE courses this year. From January to June, there were 349 commencements in these skill sets.

Each skill set contains units from the Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services. They're aligned to the Victorian Building Authority's plumbing licensing requirements.

The plumbing skill sets are designed for people who have completed the Certificate III in Plumbing apprenticeship who want to become licensed plumbers.

More than 212,600 students have benefitted from Victoria’s Free TAFE since it began in 2019. It has saved them more than $674 million in tuition fees.
