SMART Recycling in Dandenong South has been funded to establish a new production line that will allow them to produce 700,000 additional pallets each year, made from recycled materials.

The first of its kind in Australia, the new production line will use state of the art scanning software and advanced robotics equipment to sort, repair and reuse existing timber pallets.

In a win for the circular economy, the technology will prevent around 50,000 tonnes of timber pallets from ending up in landfill each year, providing an environmentally friendly substitute to standard pallet production.

SMART Recycling is an environmentally focused business that transforms timber, commercial, green and builders waste into recycled pallets, timber packaging, landscaping and building products.

Increased demand at the height of the pandemic, and global supply chain disruptions in recent years have highlighted the importance of local availability of pallets. Pallets are critical for industries like manufacturing, agriculture, and retail trade to ship and transport their goods across the economy and to consumers.

SMART Recycling will contribute to mitigating such risks in future, which is important for all Victorians.
