Locals in Melbourne’s north-west can now see what Kangan Institute’s new Sunbury campus will look like.

Designs were unveiled this week for Kangan Institute’s new TAFE campus, which is planned to open in 2028. Courses on offer there are likely to include:

  • digital technologies
  • education support
  • hair and beauty
  • foundation skills like vocational English.

Spowers Architects is leading on the design for the new TAFE campus. First Nations cultural elements and artwork are a big feature of the design. Traditional Owners took part in the design process.

Kangan Institute has strengths in delivering skills in areas that are a high priority for the Hume City area. The new TAFE will complement Kangan’s existing campus in Broadmeadows and its planned campus in Melton.

Meanwhile, Kangan Institute is already offering courses in Sunbury through the Hume Global Learning Centre. Courses include vocational English and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

The first students to benefit from this arrangement completed their courses in November. The students who have completed their Certificate IV in Training and Assessment will be qualified to join Victoria’s future vocational trainers.

The new Sunbury campus is being funded with $25 million from our Building Better TAFE Fund.

The fund is ensuring students have the best facilities to train in, close to home. As well as Kangan Institute’s 2 new campuses, it is also providing:

  • a Centre of Excellence for Disability Inclusion at The Gordon in Geelong and
  • a Bendigo TAFE Learning Hub in Castlemaine, which opened earlier this year.
