TAFEs are teaching the next generation of housing and construction workers, preparing them for jobs that are in high demand.

To lay the foundation for a future-ready building and construction industry, we are partnering with Master Builders Victoria (MBV).

The Victorian Government, TAFEs and MBV will work together to build a pipeline of skilled workforce. It will help students move from the classroom to the worksite.

Under the agreement, TAFEs and MBV will:

  • tackle the shortage of qualified TAFE trainers
  • provide events to build strong connection between industry and TAFE
  • connect graduates with real job opportunities
  • support innovation in the sector, including modern methods of construction.

Together, we’re keeping Victoria’s building sector strong, skilled and sustainable.

This partnership builds on the new $50 million Future of Housing Construction Centre of Excellence based at Melbourne Polytechnic. It will ensure the next generation of housing and construction students are well-equipped for the future.

We are continuing to help more Victorians get into the construction industry with Free TAFE. More than 33,300 students have accessed Free TAFE construction courses.

Not only has this saved aspiring tradies over $71 million in tuition fees – it has also prepared them for jobs in the high-demand construction industry.
