Tourism investment is delivering for regional Victoria

Three new tourism infrastructure projects across regional Victoria are supporting more jobs, strengthening local economies and attracting more visitors.

Together, the projects created almost 50 jobs during construction and are expected to create 13 full-time jobs through ongoing operation, while also supporting indirect employment across Victoria.

Mallee Silo Art Trail, Hindmarsh

A tall grain silo with vibrant murals of Australian native flowers and birds. A metal staircase is attached to the silo, providing access to different levels. The area has a mix of urban and natural landscapes, with roads and trees visible under a partly cloudy sky.

Like a pot of gold, a one-of-a-kind experience has landed in Rainbow as part of Victoria’s famous Silo Art Trail.

Backed by the Tourism Infrastructure Program, the project is the first silo artwork in Australia to feature both a large mural on the outside and an immersive art experience inside.

The 30-metre silo now features a bright mural by artist Geoffrey Carran, inspired by nearby gardens. Inside, artist James Voller has created suspended flower and petal sculptures that light up to create a striking display.

Visitors can view the internal artwork from two platforms inside the silo. These connect to an external tower with stairs and lift access, making the site easier for more people to enjoy.

The project also delivered:

  • landscaping
  • parking
  • signage and tourist information to encourage visitors to explore Rainbow and the wider region.

The attraction is expected to bring an additional 7,200 visitors to the area each year, contribute $650,000 to the local economy and create 3 full-time jobs.

The Monty Motel, Anglesea

The Monty Motel has reopened with a fresh new look inspired by Palm Springs, thanks to support from the Regional Tourism Investment Fund.

The motel is nestled by the sea with easy boardwalk access to the beach and offers visitors a summer escape all year round.  
Thirty-nine full-time jobs were created during construction, giving an immediate employment boost in the region.

The project delivered:

  • the transformation of all 16 rooms (including 2 fully accessible rooms) and accessible reception area with a retro design
  • new flooring and custom joinery
  • solar panels
  • electronic vehicle charging stations
  • new roofing
  • paved driveway
  • painting
  • landscaping
  • commercial kitchen to service the newly opened Mexican cantina, offering guests a vibrant dining experience
  • renovations to the outdoor pool.

The project is expected to double the motel’s revenue within 3 years and create 10 full-time jobs. It will also support many local businesses and suppliers through increased visitation to the region.

Bluestone Stables Function Centre, Willaura

Mount William Station is famous for its perfect blend of luxury and old-world charm, and the Bluestone Stables Function Centre has had a significant upgrade to improve facilities and accessibility. The project delivered:

  • 6 custom sliding doors
  • new bathrooms with 6 stalls, including an accessible option
  • flooring repairs in the Tac Room.

The completion of this project has boosted the venue’s position as a high-end premium events destination. It's increased its capacity to host up to 190 guests for weddings, business conferences, and experiences ranging from yoga retreats to community harvest dinners.
