GOTAFE’s Goulburn Murray Trade Skills Centre has reached a major milestone. Stage 2 of the world-class vocational training facility is now officially open.

The centre is at the Archer Street campus in Shepparton. The expanded Trade Skills Centre will provide more people in Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley with the opportunity to gain valuable skills and start rewarding careers in construction trades.

Residential housing construction skills are in high demand. We are investing in training that meets critical workforce needs and creates a pipeline of skilled tradespeople to build more homes for Victorians.

More than 175 students have enrolled in plumbing trade courses in the new facility. They will have access to:

  • connecting facilities for plumbing trades
  • internal and external sandpits
  • a plumbing stack
  • a workshop with welding bays
  • a mechanical gas room
  • classrooms
  • break-out spaces
  • student and staff amenities.

The centre measures an impressive 3,410 square metres. It offers cutting-edge training facilities for:

  • building and construction
  • furniture making
  • art and design
  • carpentry
  • other associated trades.

The Victorian Government has invested more than $10 million into the campus transformation through the Building Better TAFE Fund. This ensures students and teachers have the best facilities to train in, close to home.

TAFE is at the heart of Victoria’s training system. Victorians can access more than 80 Free TAFE qualifications and short courses without the cost of tuition fees, even if they already hold a VET qualification or degree.

Courses available through Free TAFE include:

  • Certificate II in Building and Construction Pre-apprenticeship
  • Certificate II in Plumbing Pre-apprenticeship.
