Two renowned First Peoples women join the Yuma Yirramboi Council

We’re excited to announce 2 new members of the Yuma Yirramboi Council’s Koori Caucus.

Kaley Nicholson joins the Koori Caucus as a First Nations woman with family line connections to the Taungurung, Barapa Barapa, Bunurong/Boonwurrung, Latji Latji, Mutthi Mutthi, Wamba Wemba, Wiradjuri and Yorta Yorta peoples. She is CEO of the Federation of Victorian Traditional Owner Corporations.

Kaley’s work is grounded in community and guided by the voices and teachings of Elders.

Also joining is Karinda Taylor. Karinda is a Wamba Wamba woman from the northwest of Victoria. She is CEO of First Peoples' Health and Wellbeing.

Karinda’s career has been dedicated to improving outcomes for First Peoples through strategic leadership, policy development and community-centred approaches.

The council’s Koori Caucus comprises 9 First Peoples experts. They partner with the department to consider opportunities and issues affecting the economic prosperity and self-determination of First Peoples in Victoria.

The Koori Caucus helped to develop our Yuma Yirramboi (Invest in Tomorrow) Strategy. The strategy is key for achieving economic parity for First Peoples in Victoria within a generation.
