Victoria kicking goals with game-changing new sports tech centre
We have supported a leading UK sports tech company to establish its headquarters in Victoria and bring its cutting-edge technology to Aussie sports such as the AFLW.
UK-based Sportable has opened its new Asia Pacific headquarters and Centre of Excellence in Collingwood. It will boost Victoria’s thriving digital tech scene and strengthening our status as Australia’s sporting capital.
The centre will create up to 20 highly specialist jobs in software development, hardware engineering and client delivery.
Sportable’s ‘Smart Ball’ technology provides real-time information about a ball’s movement during a game. This is used to make sure every line call or close shot is accurate.
Sportable has successfully introduced its ‘Smart Sherrin’ in the 2024 AFLW season, following years of development with the AFL. The Smart Sherrin has assisted with more than 2,000 score reviews in the 2025 season.
Prior to this, Sportable introduced its ‘Smart Rugby Ball’ in France and Australia. The company was founded by rugby players and NASA engineers in 2019.
The arrival of Sportable in Victoria will drive innovation and boost capabilities in the state’s growing sports tech industry, which is home to 39% of the nation’s sports tech companies.
Victoria is home to many sporting codes and world-class sporting events like the AFL Grand Final and the Australian Open – making it the perfect location for Sportable’s new centre. The facility will drive research and development to expand the unique technology into other sports, including netball, basketball and soccer.
