Victorian food and fibre exports lead the nation again
The 2024-25 Victorian Food and Fibre Export Performance Report shows that Victoria remains Australia’s largest exporter by value, increasing our share of national exports to 28%.
This strong result was supported by the strongest sales ever for our horticulture producers, who:
- were valued at an incredible $1.9 billion
- accounted for almost half of the nation’s total horticulture export value
- strengthened our position as Australia’s almond capital, producing around half of the country’s crop.
To build on this success, we delivered a major horticulture trade mission in May. Global Victoria brought leading fresh produce buyers to regional Victoria from:
- Greater China
- North Asia
- Southeast Asia.
The group of buyers connected with local horticultural growers and exporters, touring:
- Mildura
- Swan Hill
- Shepparton
- Werribee.
The report also shows Victorian exporters expanded into a broader range of international markets with a wider offering of products. This diversification was a key driver of this year’s record growth and saw an additional 21% of export revenue sourced from markets outside the top ten markets.
China remains the top export market for Victoria comprising a strong mix of meat, dairy, grains, horticulture, fibre and many other imports.
The United States remains Victoria’s second highest market by value, followed by Japan.
The $34.9 million Boosting Victorian Exports Package is helping small and medium-sized businesses:
- take their products to global markets
- identify new markets
- diversify their customer base.
