Jo's story

When Jo lost both her dad and her best friend to cancer, she saw firsthand just how valuable a nurse’s work is. And when she discovered she could study nursing through Free TAFE, it felt like a door was opening to her.

Chris returned to study as a mature-aged student and is now an IT teacher, thanks to Free TAFE. After going to TAFE to add to his existing skills as an IT professional, he decided to gain his qualification in training and assessment. Now, he works at Chisholm Institute.

Apprentice engineer Madi and her classmates are gearing up to complete their TAFE training. They have the help of specialist teachers qualified in providing support with literacy, numeracy and digital skills. The support is integrated into their course for free, and  is tailored to meet industry needs.

Sahin and Alex both work in roles that support apprentices to complete their training. They’re passionate about helping apprentices with personal, learning and workplace challenges. ‘It's rewarding to know that you've had an impact or you've been able to help someone in their lives in some way,’ Sahin says.
