Victoria’s AI future: Driving jobs, opportunity and growth

The Victorian Government has released our AI Mission Statement. It positions the state as a national leader in artificial intelligence (AI).

AI is transforming our lives – from education and medical research, to manufacturing and health. The statement puts people front and centre, ensuring all Victorians benefit from the opportunities AI brings.

It sets a clear path to grow our future economy, strengthen our industries, and create high-skilled jobs – shaping a future-ready Victoria for everyone.

The statement is backed by 2 new initiatives:

• $5.5 million for a Sustainable Data Centre Action Plan
• $8.1 million for a Digital Jobs – AI Career Conversion program to upskill and reskill tech professionals in AI.

AI represents a major economic opportunity. It has the potential to contribute up to $30 billion in Gross State Product over the next decade.

The statement outlines our plan to:

• build the right digital infrastructure
• grow the right skills
• harness AI to lift productivity
• develop our AI ecosystem sustainably.

The statement is built on 6 key pillars:

• attracting AI investment and supporting adoption
• building talent and a skilled workforce
• data and digital infrastructure
• local AI innovation, products and services
• ethical AI use
• adopting AI across government.

Across industry, education, government and the community, we’re supporting Victorians to understand, use and benefit from AI – responsibly, inclusively, and confidently.
