World-leading energy storage technology to launch in Victoria

We’re charging up the state’s renewable energy transition by backing global leader Energy Dome’s game-changing battery technology.

Established in Milan in 2020, Energy Dome has chosen Melbourne for its APAC Headquarters. The Italian company selected Victoria due to our net-zero targets and the collaborative nature of the local energy industry.

They will explore potential projects in regional Victoria to set up the company’s unique carbon dioxide (CO2) battery technology.

Energy Dome’s groundbreaking CO2 battery is efficient and cost-effective at storing energy. It provides an alternative to lithium-ion batteries or pumped-hydro solutions.

The CO2 battery can store large amounts of intermittent renewable energy. This is well-suited for Victoria’s transition away from coal-fired power, combined with its significant industrial energy demands.

Energy Dome is close to completing its world-first commercial-scale CO2 Battery in Sardinia.

Energy Dome’s APAC Headquarters in Melbourne builds on the strong sister-city relationship between Milan and Melbourne. This partnership celebrates its 21st anniversary this year.
