Cabin fever hits Portarlington

They say all good things come in threes, which is true for the Portarlington Holiday Park. Now home to 3 new cabins, families, groups and travellers of all abilities have more options to stay and play.

Nestled on the Bellarine Peninsula, Portarlington is just over an hour from Melbourne. It has earned a reputation as one of Victoria's premier coastal destinations. The stunning coastal location is an important tourism hub for the region, serving as a gateway to the Bellarine's:

• beaches
• wineries
• walking trails
• ferry connections.

Local family-owned company Yarrawonga Manufactured Housing Pty Ltd, which has more than 35 years’ experience, built the cabins offsite. They were then transported to their new home in Portarlington, supported by First Nations Traffic Management.

The project showcases advanced manufacturing in action – a key priority sector of our Economic Growth Statement.

Modern methods of construction, such as prefabricated and modular building, support the more efficient and cost-effective delivery of homes, tourism accommodation and visitor infrastructure across the economy.

The cabins are expected to generate 1,501 visitor nights annually and contribute $327,000 each year to the visitor economy.

Forecasting suggests that after 20 years of operation, the cabins will bring in nearly $5 million in revenue. This will then be reinvested directly into caring for the coastal environment and improving public spaces for visitors.

Supported by the Regional Tourism Investment Fund, the cabin upgrade project delivered:

• removal of 3 old cabins
• installation of 2 new 3-bedrooms cabins and 1 fully accessible two-bedroom cabin
• installation of LED lighting and low energy appliances in the new cabins
• landscaping.

The new accommodation will provide a more comfortable and inclusive visitor experience. It will also support year-round tourism growth across the Bellarine Peninsula.

Since 2021, investment in tourism infrastructure has supported more than 200 projects across regional and rural Victoria. It has created thousands of jobs and ensuring Victoria is a must-visit location.
