Economic development for First Peoples is a priority for the department.
The Aboriginal Economic Development branch leads work across the department to support First Peoples' self-determination through employment and economic growth.
The branch leads implementation of the Yuma Yirramboi Strategy (Invest in Tomorrow) – the Victorian Government and First Peoples' shared vision to generate greater individual and collective wealth for First Peoples in Victoria.
It also leads the department’s engagement strategy with First Peoples communities through the Yuma Yirramboi Council, including the Koori Caucus of the Council.
The branch partners across the department and government to embed culturally inclusive practices and drive improved outcomes for First Peoples in Victoria.
Yuma Yirramboi Strategy (Invest in Tomorrow)
This strategy aims to achieve equality and foster economic empowerment among First Peoples in Victoria within a generation. It sets high expectations and is built on strong and enduring partnerships with all Victorians.
First Peoples in Victoria have worked with the government to develop the strategy. They guide and inform the rollout of the strategy and monitor its progress.
