Work begins on Clean Energy Centre at TAFE Gippsland
The renewable energy sector is booming.
Victoria has a target of 95% renewable energy generation by 2035 and net zero by 2045.
The state's transition to clean energy will create 59,000 jobs and 6,000 apprenticeships.
This means demand is growing for skilled workers in the clean energy sector, especially in Gippsland’s emerging offshore wind sector.
The Clean Energy Centre at TAFE Gippsland will help to meet the demand.
Work has started on the new centre at TAFE Gippsland’s Morwell campus.
When complete, it will provide courses on clean and sustainable energy technologies. Training will include:
- the expansion and maintenance of wind power for onshore and offshore energy systems
- hybrid and electric vehicle servicing and maintenance
- smart grid technology.
Students will gain the real-world skills they need for exciting careers on large-scale clean energy projects.
The Victorian Government has invested $5 million into TAFE Gippsland’s Clean Energy Centre.
The investment comes from the $50 million TAFE Clean Energy Fund. This fund is backing students, workers and industries with clean energy projects across the state.
The TAFE Clean Energy Fund will also support new and upgraded facilities at Federation TAFE in Ballarat and South West TAFE in Warrnambool.
