Employment programs at DJSIR
The department currently offers a number of employment programs to a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds.

Victorian Government Graduate Program
This is a 12-month, whole of Victorian Government development program administered by the Victorian Public Service Commission. Graduates will undertake 3 rotating placements of 4 months each in an ongoing position with an eligible promotion upon successful completion.

DJSIR Graduate Program
The DJSIR Graduate Program is an internal graduate program for high-calibre university graduates.
The program leverages the candidate talent pool for the Victorian Government Graduate Program, and provides an opportunity to employ talented graduates into fixed term 12 months position and development program within DJSIR.
To be considered for the DJSIR Graduate program, submission of an application for the Victorian Government Graduate program is a prerequisite. For further information visit the Victorian Government Graduate Program website.
Youth Employment Scheme (YES) Trainee Program
This program offers young Victorians aged 15 to 29 opportunities to undertake a traineeship in the Victorian Government. Through a mixture of structured training, provided by a group training organisation and on the job training, trainees will successfully complete certificate level qualifications.

Asylum Seeker and Refugee Internship Program
The Victorian Government Refugee and Asylum Seeker internship program provides university students who are refugees or asylum seekers with work experience the opportunity to build their network. This initiative connects the Victorian public service with refugees and asylum seekers looking for paid work experience.
The summer program runs for 12 weeks between November and February each year.
The Victorian Public Sector Commission runs the program with CareerSeekers to match interns to suitable openings.
Barring Djinang Internship Program
This Barring Djinang internship program is designed to connect the Victorian public sector and agencies with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander university students looking for paid work experience opportunities.
The summer program runs for 12 weeks in November and February each year.
The Victorian Public Sector Commission runs the program with CareerSeekers to match interns to suitable openings.
Digital Jobs Program
The Victorian Government’s Digital Jobs program aims to build the state’s digital workforce by training and upskilling mid-career Victorians so they can transition into digital careers.
If you’re over 30 years of age, have an appetite for learning and feel motivated to make a change, then Digital Jobs could be for you!
The program that gives you:
- 12 weeks of free training in a high-quality, industry-backed digital course
- Opportunities to apply for entry-level work placements with participating employers
- Ongoing support from a mentor throughout the program

Stepping Into Internship Program
This is a paid internship program designed specifically for university students with disability.
With the success of the pilot program in 2017, the department has continued to grow its intake of students with disability. Interns have been placed across the department, including in communications, customer service, emergency management, HR, inclusion, IT and legal.
