Fair Payment Policy

The Victorian Government's The Fair Payment Policy supports small and medium businesses by requiring Victorian Government departments and agencies to pay invoices within 10 business days for contracts with a value of less than $3 million.

Better Approvals for Business program

The Better Approvals for Business program is part of the Victorian Government’s regulation reform agenda focused on improving planning and other business approvals processes to support economic growth.

Victorian Sick Pay Guarantee

The Victorian Sick Pay Guarantee was a pilot program that ran from 14 March 2022 to 30 June 2024. The Victorian Government trialled a nation-first approach to supporting eligible casual and contract workers with sick and carer’s pay.

Outdoor recreation

Fish stocking

The Victorian Fisheries Authority has stocked record-breaking numbers of fish in recent years. Since July 2020, the VFA has overseen the release of more than 48 million fish. Fish are stocked to improve recreational fishing opportunities in lakes and rivers and help the recovery of threatened species such as trout cod and Macquarie perch. The annual regional consultative meetings (Vic Fish Stock) provide a forum for discussion on fish stocking regimes, fish population surveys and other related recreational fisheries management issues.

Overseeing the delivery of Better Boating projects & programs

Better Boating Victoria oversees the delivery of recreational boating projects and programs through the allocation of the Better Boating Fund. The Better Boating Fund comprises of recreational boating registration and licence fees, which are reinvested into projects and programs across the state. The fund enables ramp upgrades, grants programs and boating education to be delivered as well as ensuring boaters can park and launch for free at all Victorian public boat ramps.

Research and analysis

Our research unit collates and analyses a range of research and statistics relating to tourism in Victoria. Publications include domestic and international visitation and expenditure, the economic contribution of tourism, tourism forecasts and segment and market profiles. This information is provided to assist government, industry and investors to understand the trends and issues impacting the sector to enable better evidence-based decision making.

Economic impact assessment reports

The economic impact assessment reports provide an estimate of the economic impact, full-time equivalent employment and other key variables generated by the Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix event.

2024 and 2025

BDO was commissioned to undertake an independent assessment of the economic impact of the 2024 and 2025 Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix.

2022 and 2023

Ernst & Young was commissioned to undertake an independent assessment of the economic impact of the 2022 and 2023 Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix and the 2023 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

Ticket scalping legislation

The Major Events Act 2009 protects fans from ticket scalpers, giving everyone the chance to attend Victorian events without being priced out or forced to pay exorbitant costs to attend major events.

When the government declares an event as a major event, it becomes illegal to sell or advertise for resale tickets for more than 10% above face value. It's also an offence to advertise or sell a ticket package without the authorisation of the event organiser.
